Healthy recipe: Dalia Upma by Chef Rakhee Vaswani

Upma is, hands down, the most favoured breakfast option out there. Its delicious, nutritious, full of flavours and easy on the stomach -- what's not to like about it! Guess what's better than the classic upma made with rawa, upma made with dalia! This powerhouse of fiber makes for an appetising breakfast or even snacks option. Here are a few more breakfast recipes you'll love.

Ingredients

  • Dalia/broken wheat 1 cup
  • Onion 1 small, minced
  • Tomato 1, chopped
  • Carrot 1, grated
  • French beans 2 3, finely minced
  • Curry leaves 8 10
  • Mustard seeds tsp
  • Asafoetida tsp
  • Jeera 1 tsp
  • Green chilli 1, slit
  • Salt to taste
  • Haldi a pinch
  • Coriander leaves 2 tbsp, chopped
  • Ghee/butter 1 tbsp

Method

  1. Boil the dalia in 1 cup water and salt for 5 10 minutes or till the water has dried up and the dalia is cooked.
  2. Heat ghee in a kadai and add mustard seeds, let it splutter and add the jeera, curry leaves, asafoetida and stir for a few seconds.
  3. Next add the onion and fry till slightly pink; add the beans and grated carrot and stir for a minute.
  4. Add salt, a pinch of haldi, green chilli, chopped tomato and finally the dahlia and stir well.
  5. Cover and cook on a slow fire for 5 7 minutes or till done. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve.
