Healthy recipe – chawli or black eyed peas cutlets

Curbing your hunger pangs with a protein-rich snack is the best way to fill up your tummy. Try these cutlets made of black eyed peas that help lower cholesterol, are rich in potassium and iron, and also have low glycemic index making them ideal for diabetics. Here s the recipe. You could also try these 0ther protein-rich snacks.

Ingredients

  • Black eyed peas (chawli) 1 cup
  • Gram flour (besan) - cup
  • Onion - 1
  • Green chillies - 3
  • Curry leaves - 8
  • Salt to taste

Method

  • Soak the peas overnight.
  • Finely chop onion and green chillies.
  • Tear the curry leaves into bits.
  • Drain the peas and coarsely grind them.
  • And cut onions, chillies and curry leaves.
  • Now add salt and besan.
  • Mix well.
  • Heat a heavy base non-stick pan.
  • Grease it with little oil.
  • Make cutlets, flatten them and place them in the pan.
  • Cover the pan, shallow fry the cutlets till they are golden brown.
  • Turn them over and cook the other side.
  • Serve hot.
