Healthy Indian dessert recipe- Mewa lapsi

With Diwali just a few days away, you must be getting ready to binge your heart out! There is no doubt that you need to exercise extreme caution even when feasting. You’re going to need a lot of hard work to burn off the calories you gain during festivals like Diwali! If you are obese, have heart disease or diabetes, the problems are manifold. You can’t afford to slip up when it comes to diet and exercise. Unfortunately, most Indian sweets and desserts and prasads are loaded with sugar and maida, are overprocessed and some are deep-fried. But who can say no to desserts during Diwali! It’s best to exercise caution and consume desserts in moderation. What you also need to do is tweak a few desserts with healthier ingredients so you can eat healthy without compromising on taste. Here are delicious vegan desserts without sugar and maida. Here we have a recipe by Maharaj Jodharam Choudhary, Corporate Chef, Khandani Rajdhani that packs in nutritious dry fruits and broken wheat or dalia or lapsi to give you a mouthwatering dessert your guests will love. Did you know broken wheat or dalia or lapsi aids in weight loss because it’s full of fibre which makes you feel full for a long time. It has a low glycemic index and contains complex carbohydrates, which ensure a slow and steady release of glucose into blood thereby preventing your blood sugar levels from spiking. Ingredients

Broken wheat 1 cup

Jaggery 3 /4 cup

Elaichi powder 5 to 6 pcs powdered

Kaju 2 tbsp

Raisins 2 tbsp

Badam 2 tbsp

Pista 1 tbsp

Ghee 3 tbsp

Water 3.5 cups

Method

1. Heat the ghee in a non-stick kadhai. Add the broken wheat and keep stirring it continuously for 5-10 minutes until golden brown.

2. Add water and cook till water starts boiling.

3. Add the jaggery with a little bit of water and stir till it melts completely and broken wheat is cooked.

4. Add elaichi powder, chopped cashews, raisins, chopped almonds.

5. Serve hot garnished with chopped almonds and pista.
