Healthy evening snack recipe: Oats and poha sukha bhel

Bhel, sev puri, pani puri these chaat items can make anyone drool and it is so difficult to resist the temptation of eating these. But remember, you ll have to give these things a miss if you want to eat healthy and stay fit. Street food is calorie laden and is best avoided. However, you can definitely satisfy your taste buds with a homemade healthy sev puri or bhel. Find out why bhel is a healthy snack. Here s a healthy version of this world famous bhel:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup oats
  • 1 cup poha
  • cup puffed rice or murmura
  • cup tomatoes, finely chopped
  • cup onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • Salt to taste

  • cup mint leaves or pudina, finely chopped
  • cup coriander or dhania, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • tbsp green chillies
  • 1 tbsp roasted chana dal
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • Pinch of turmeric
  • Pinch of asafoetida
  • Salt to taste

Method:

  1. Mix all the ingredients for the chutney in a blender and grind to form a smooth paste.
  2. Do not add any water as the end product needs to be in the form of dry chutney. You can use the entire quantity for the bhel and add or lower the spice content as required. Did you know, spicy food can help with weight loss?
  3. In a deep pan, add the oats, poha and puffed rice and roast these ingredients on a medium flame for 8-10 minutes until all the ingredients are crisp.
  4. Keep stirring them gently as you don t want the ingredients to burn or change colour.
  5. You can store this mix in an airtight container so you can enjoy the bhel anytime.
  6. Allow it to cool slightly in a big bowl that you want to use for mixing the bhel.
  7. Add all the remaining ingredients along with the green chutney and mix well.
  8. Enjoy the tangy and spicy sukha bhel as a healthy evening snack.
