Healthy dessert recipe - Date and crackers cubes

This can be a regular in your kid's snack box.

Do you enjoy biting into a lotte choco pie once in a while? Kids love it and they are a regular in most kids snack boxes. But you are certainly aware that they are loaded with calories. While you will want to control the cravings, kids may not be able to.

When I was making Diwali sweets this year, I came across many recipes using dates. I was bored of the usual anjeer or khajoor rolls. So I decided to bring in a twist. My mom used to make a no-bake cake from digestive biscuits and homemade white butter when we were kids and we would absolutely love it. I incorporated that idea in my date and crackers cubes. Dates are super foods and should be a part of your diet regularly.

A dessert that involves dates, has no added sugar and is quick to make is certainly a treat for most dessert lovers who are health conscious too. So here s the recipe for date and cracker cubes:

  • 500gms soft dates, de-seeded
  • 8 crackers
  • 1 tbsp homemade ghee
  • Desiccated coconut for garnish, optional


  1. Heat a non-stick pan and add the ghee.
  2. Add the chopped and de-seeded dates to the pan and saut .
  3. Continue stirring till the dates soften and become pulpy. The resulting mixture should resemble a halwa or soft dough.
  4. At this stage, you can add chopped nuts if you wish too. I chose not to.
  5. Allow the mix to cool down. Now cover the crackers with this mix.
  6. Sprinkle some desiccated coconut or roll the date coated crackers in it. Place on butter or parchment paper.
  7. Let it set in the refrigerator for half an hour.
  8. Cut them in desired shapes and serve.
  9. These cubes can be stored in airtight containers for over 10 days.

You can also try this dates and oats smoothie or dates and banana smoothie for breakfast.
