Even the thought of halwa can excite your taste buds. But then, the calorie plays the spoil-sport. How about making a low calorie carrot halwa? Avoid khoya and replace the full fat milk powder with its low fat counterpart to enrich this dessert. Enhance the taste of this appealing halwa with a pinch of cardamom powder.

Ingredients

Carrot, grated 3 cups

Sugar 1/2 cup

Milk powder 3 tbsp

Low fat milk (99.7% fat-free) 2 tbsp

Cardamom (elaichi) powder a pinch

Almond (badam) slivers 1 tbsp

Ghee1 tbsp

Method

  1. Steam the carrots over boiling water for 3 to 5 minutes.
  2. Heat the ghee in a pan, add the steamed carrots and saut for 2 minutes.
  3. Add the sugar and cook for 2 to 3 minutes.
  4. Add the milk powder and milk. Mix well and cook for a few minutes, while stirring continuously.
  5. Sprinkle the cardamom powder and almonds and mix well.
  6. Serve hot.
