Healthy Christmas recipe: Hot Apple Pie with Low Fat Custard

This finger-licking dessert is devoid of sugar and cream! It also offers the benefits of apples, wheat bran, oats, sugar substitute and low fat milk. Go ahead and have a guilt free and healthy Christmas!

Baking Time: 20 mins

Baking Temperature: 200 C (400 F)

Makes 4 servings

Ingredients

For The Low Fat Custard

  • Low fat milk 1 cup
  • Custard powder 2 tsp
  • Sugar substitute 1 tsp (approx.)
  • Vanilla essence, a few drops

For The Hot Apple Pie

  • Apples with the skin, sliced 2 cups
  • Wheat bran 1/4 cup
  • Low-fat milk 2 tbsp
  • Chocolate flavoured Bournvita 2 tbsp
  • Vanilla essence 1/2 tsp
  • Sugar substitute 1 tsp (approx.)
  • Oil for greasing 1/4 tsp

For The Topping

  • Quick cooking rolled oats 1/2 cup

Method

For the low fat custard

  • Mix the custard powder in cup milk and keep aside.
  • Heat the remaining milk with the sugar substitute in a non-stick saucepan.
  • When the milk starts boiling, add the custard powder mixture and vanilla essence.
  • Cook over a low flame, stirring continuously till the mixture thickens.
  • Pour into a bowl and keep aside to cool and then refrigerate to chill.

For the hot apple pie

  • Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl.
  • Put the mixture in a greased baking dish and sprinkle the oats on top and bake at 200 c (400 f) for about 15 minutes.
  • Serve hot with low fat custard.

Choco protein powders are available under various brand names like Complan, Boost, Proteinules etc.
