Healthy Christmas recipe: Date rolls

Instead of gorging on readymade sweets and chocolates high on empty calories, make these simple yet healthy date rolls at home this Christmas. The recipe contains dates which are naturally sweet and full of nutrients, poppy seeds and nuts rich in protein, calcium etc. You can store these for a few days and maybe your kids would opt for these instead of chocolates!

Preparation Time: 5 mins

Makes 6 rolls

Ingredients

  • Ghee 1/2 tsp
  • Black dates (kala khajur), deseeded and finely chopped 3/4 cup
  • Almonds (badam), chopped 1 tbsp
  • Pistachio nuts, chopped 1 tbsp
  • Walnuts (akhrot) chopped 1 tbsp
  • Poppy seeds (khus-khus), for coating 2 tbsp

Method

  • Heat the ghee in a small non-stick pan, add the dates and cook on a slow flame, while stirring continuously for 5 to 7 minutes or till they turn into a soft lump.
  • Remove and add the almonds, pistachio nuts and walnuts and mix well.
  • Divide into 6 equal portions and shape each portion into a roll.
  • Coat each roll with poppy seeds and refrigerate to set.
