Healthy Christmas recipe: Baked cottage cheese pie

The holiday season is incomplete without a delicious pie but they're usually loaded with calories. What you can do is try out this baked cottage cheese pie with low-fat options like paneerand fruits for a healthy and low calories Christmas treat.

Serves 4


For the cottage cheese mixture

  • Low fat cottage cheese (paneer) 1 cup
  • Sugar 4 tsp
  • Low fat milk 4 tbsp
  • Saffron (kesar) a few strands

For the fruit filling

  • Apples, sliced 1 cup
  • Brown sugar 4 tsp
  • Nutmeg (jaiphal) powder 1/4 tsp
  • Lemon juice, a few drops


For the cottage cheese mixture

  • Dissolve the saffron in the milk and keep aside
  • Blend together all the ingredients in a blender to a smooth paste. Keep aside.

For the fruit filling

  • Mix together all the ingredients and keep aside for 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Squeeze out all the water and arrange the fruit in a greased 150 mm. (6") diameter pie dish.

How to proceed

  • Spread the cottage cheese mixture over the fruit and bake in a pre-heated oven at 220 C (440 F) for 15 minutes.
  • Serve warm.
