Milk, wheat flakes, porridge is easy to cook but don t you end up craving for something salty within an hour of eating these? Then there is mung dal idli, ragi uttapam, oats upma, healthy pancakes and many savoury breakfast options too but often they are time-consuming, especially if you have to get kids ready, get dressed for work, cook lunch and then breakfast. But a healthy breakfast should not be compromised and so here is a quick recipe that will not leave you craving for sugar and incorporates the goodness of cereal, fruits, nuts, protein and much more.

  • 2 slices watermelon, diced
  • 2 slices papaya, diced
  • apple, diced
  • banana, diced
  • 3 dates, chopped
  • 2 tbsp mixed nuts, chopped
  • 1 tbsp raisins
  • 1 tbsp black raisins
  • 1 cup muesli
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 4 -5 tbsp yoghurt, homemade preferably

Method

  1. You can chop the fruits, except banana and apple the previous night to save time in the morning.
  2. Take a deep glass bowl and layer it with mixed chopped fruits first.
  3. The next layer is muesli topped with chopped nuts, dates and raisins.
  4. Finally just before you serve it, top it with the yoghurt and drizzle some honey over it.

Yogurt is an ideal breakfast ingredient for summer. Fresh fruits and crunchy muesli make you feel light yet full till afternoon. Since there is no overpowering sweetness added, you do not crave for anything salty. It is the most preferred breakfast option at my home since summer has kicked in, and we are not bored yet!
