Healthy breakfast recipe: Carrot-apple sandwich

apple carrot sandwichSandwiches are probably one of the easiest dishes to make yet many people do not get it right. Not only is a sandwich healthy (if you select the right bread and filling), it can also be prepared in a few minutes. Nutritionist Naini Setalvad shares her recipe of a healthy carrot and apple sandwich. Apples have several health benefits such as preventing the risk of a stroke, boosting the immune system and are low in calories as well. Carrots are equally healthy as well -- they keep our skin glowing, help in blood clotting, improve vision and much more. Make this dish for breakfast or snack to satisfy your hunger pangs in a healthy way.

Ingredients

  • 1 full apple
  • 250g carrot
  • 5-6 tbsp hung curd
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 8 slices of whole wheat bread
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method

Grate the apple and carrots and squeeze the water by pressing them in-between your palm.

Put the curd in a muslin cloth and allow the water to drain for an hour.

Add salt, pepper, hung curd and oregano in the apple-carrot mixture.

Mix all together.

Apply butter on one side of each bread slice.

Spread this mix on each bread.

Chill it for some time and serve.

Serves two.
