Even though warming up before workout won't burn hundreds of calories it still becomes crucial to incorporate it in daily workout routine. When you spend all day sitting at a desk curled over a keyboard, the muscles in the body become inactive. This lack of movement makes the muscles extra tight and constricted. Going to the gym after that and immediately stretching or lifting heavy weights can strain the muscles and cause damage. A warm-up session before that increases the flexibility in the muscles and prepares the muscles for strenuous exercises. A 5-10 minute warm up through walking or jogging is typically all you need to get started.
Warming up before gymming increases the blood flow in the muscles, further preparing them for a workout. It also increases the delivery of oxygen and nutrients in the muscles that prevents one from running out of breath easily. A good warm-up reduces the chances of muscle, ligament and tendon injuries by allowing the muscles and joints to move through a greater range of motion easily. It is recommended to spend more time in warming up for very intense workouts whereas you can shell out less time in moderate to low-intensity workouts.
