Guinness World Records: Most people find it difficult to do regular pull-ups, owing to the fact that they are not physically active or disciplined about their workout sessions. Those who do exercise regularly often restrict their pull-ups to the gym, where there is natural air and they can sweat it out. But, can you imagine doing pull-ups under the water, and also managing to create history by earning a Guinness World Records title? A man from Egypt recently achieved this feat and impressed people around the world.
On August 2, 2024, Ramy Abdelhamid of Egypt did the unthinkable, when he summoned all this mental and physical strength to do the most number of pull-ups under open water in one breath for a male contender. Abdelhamid managed to do 33 pull-ups in Dahab, South Sinai, Egypt. Take a look at the video here.
According to guinnessworldrecords.com, the record was achieved as part of a 'personal goal' and to motivate other young people to practise sports and lead active lifestyles.
The record holder first pulled himself down and went deep under water using a rope. He maintained all safety precautions and even had a team of professionals surrounding him. Once he reached the bar, he started doing the pull-ups and managed to do 33 of them in one breath before pulling himself up with the same rope.
While he was being motivated by the people surrounding him, Abdelhamid evidently showed a lot of grit and patience as he etched his name in history with this terrific achievement. Such a feat requires a calm and collected mind.
"Tremendous strength and stamina with just one breath," someone commented in the Instagram video that was shared by Guinness. "...and in one breath, his lung capacity is stellar... I wonder what inspired him to set a record for this," another comment read.
Abdelhamid himself took to Instagram to share his feelings and experience after securing the title, writing: "As I descend into the serene depths of the ocean, I am reminded that free diving is not just a physical journey, but a profound exploration of the mind. Each dive requires an unwavering mental focus, a state of clarity that allows me to connect with the underwater world while remaining fully aware of my body and breath."
"This moment feels surreal, especially because as a kid, I would flip through the pages of the Guinness Book of World Records, marveling at the incredible feats of others. I never imagined I would one day join their ranks. Reflecting on this journey, I realise how much dedication, hard work, and passion have brought me here. It's a strange yet beautiful feeling to achieve something I once thought was just a dream," he mentioned in another post.
