I exercise every day and also follow a healthy diet. But since the past one month I have stopped losing weight. What is the reason and what can I do?Weight loss happens gradually. You may have lost a few pounds in the first few months of beginning with exercise and diet. After a while, you may not observe any change on the scale and this may continue till quite some time. You may also put on a pound or two. Don t be worried. At one point of time, your body hits a plateau when it refuses to show any results even though you are doing everything at the same pace as before. But do you know that, following the same routine without any change for months is the exact problem. Prosenjit Biswas, Fitness Manager at Skulpt Kolkata tells you why you are not losing weight despite workouts and diet and how you can start seeing results again. The body hits a plateau or gets used to the routine you have been following since a few months. If you are following the same type of workout and diet for a long period of time, neuromuscular adaptation occurs and body stops responding to this routine. It gets habituated to it. You need to break the monotony and surprise your body. You need to modify your workout. Add interval or circuit training to your routine. Strength training exercises must be done slowly and should be properly paced. Increase your water intake and alter your diet. Skip carbohydrates for 2-3 days in a week for dinner. Add more protein to your diet build muscles so you can burn fat. If you are skipping warm up or cool down exercises, get started with those. Sleep deprivation can also affect your weight loss. You will need to change your workout routine every 6-8 weeks to avoid hitting the plateau. Use combination exercises, HIIT, cross training to start losing weight again. Image Source: Shutterstock
