Feeling low on energy? A deep breath is all you need to re-energise yourself. The mind can control the body in many ways. So when you are feeling very tired and drained out, take a short break and practice some deep breathing. According to Yasmin Karachiwala, Celebrity Pilates instructor, breathing deeply and effectively increases blood flow throughout the body and gives all your muscles and organs more energy. Use your mind to instruct your body that it needs to breathe calmly and relax. Deep circulatory breathing helps relax the mind and reduce stress. It not only oxygenates the blood but also gives you a sense of peace and control. If you have ever looked or read closely, most de-stress plans involve some kind of breathing exercises. Breathing is also known to prevent injuries or stress on muscles during exercising. Did you know that a proper warm up and cool down routine can also help prevent injuries and pain during workouts?

Sit in an easy pose or sukhasana with your eyes closed. Place both your index fingers on the cartilage between your ear and cheek. Now take a deep breath and start humming softly as you exhale. Inhale for as long as you can and exhale slowly while humming. Repeat this for 6-7 times and relax. Your mouth must be closed while you are humming and do not press the cartilage too hard. This deep breathing exercise is also called Bhramari pranayama which helps you calm down. Besides deep breathing, here are few more tips to help you stay energetic throughout the day.
