Utthita Hasta Padangustasana or extended hand to toe pose is an excellent asana to stretch, strengthen and tone the thighs and legs. It also stretches and tones the hips and the hamstrings. The asana is very useful to strengthen the back and arm muscles. It also calms the mind and improves focus and concentration.

Extended hand to toe pose

Steps to do the pose

  • Stand straight by placing both your feet together. Now slowly shift your weight to your left leg.
  • Place your left hand on your left hip and bend your right leg grabbing your right toe with your right hand.
  • As you inhale, slowly lift your right leg up and forward. Pull back your right toe with your fingers.
  • Take a few deep, slow breaths in this position, and hold the pose for as long as you can.
  • As you exhale, slowly lower your right foot to the floor.
  • Repeat the steps of this pose with the other leg.

Tip

If you find it difficult to hold the pose, you can take the support of a chair and place the raised leg on the edge of the chair. Alternatively, you can place your heel firmly to the wall for support.
