For some people, surya namaskar is a habit, for some it is a way to lose weight and for some, it is a way to connect with yourself. We think surya namaskar is a very benefiting addition to your fitness routine. While it is an excellent exercise, you need to get it right. Here are four warm-up exercises to do before you begin surya namaskar to help you breathe right. Here is the right way of doing surya namaskar.

Head rotation

Stand straight, close your eyes and rotate your head clockwise and anti-clockwise. While you are doing that, concentrate on your breathing. When you start moving your head from your right, take a deep breath in and breathe out when you turn to your left. Do this at least four-five times before you move on to the next exercise.

Shoulders rotation

Rotate your shoulders in circular motions forwards and backwards. Follow the same breathing pattern that you followed for the head exercise. Move your shoulders slowly as it will be easier to take deep breaths and your shoulders will feel relaxed. Do this four-five times.

Hip rotation

Place your hands on your hips and move in circular motions. Do not move your entire body, just the hips. This will make your hips flexible and will help you in performing surya namaskar. Again, concentrate on your breathing, do it four-five times each and move slowly.

Knee rotation

This is the last one before you begin surya namaskar. Place your palm on your knees and move in circular motions while concentrating on your breathing.

Keep these three things in mind while you are performing these exercises:

  • Take a deep breath in while you start moving from one side and breathe out when you turn to the other side.
  • Do each exercise four-five times.
  • Move in both clockwise and anti-clockwise directions.

These warm-up exercises improve your breathing, cleanse your system and they also help you do surya namaskar with ease. If you have just started yoga or surya namaskar, perform these four exercises first. Check out these incredible benefits of surya namaskar.
