Diwali is that time of the year when friends and family come together to burst crackers, visit relatives and indulge in delicious food. Every year during Diwali we witness an increase in the number of medical emergencies across India due to burns, trauma, respiratory problems and other issues. It is critical that we take care and not let accidents mar the enjoyment, by being a little extra cautious. 1. First aid kit: It is very important that one keeps a first aid kit handy which can be accessed easily if needed. Accidents can occur at any given point of time and absence of basic first aid can increase the damage considerably. One must ensure that it has basic medicines, creams, bandages among other things stocked to avoid any such situation. Read to know if your first-aid kit has these 10 essential items.

2. Road safety: Don't burst firecrackers on the streets, i.e., main roads or in traffic-prone areas. There are cases where the sparks of firecrackers end up bursting near vehicles, causing fatalities. This can cause a huge amount of damage to mankind and property hence it is best not burst crackers on the streets.

3. Emergency numbers: It is essential to keep emergency ambulance numbers like 1298/108 within reach. Calling for help at the right time without losing valuable minutes can decrease the extent of damage and increase chances of survival. Also, one must save the contact of their nearest police stations, doctor, fire brigade, etc., so that no time is wasted in contacting the wrong people or looking for their contacts. It is always wise to be safe than sorry. Here s why you should stay away from loud crackers.

4. Home decor: One must be very careful while lighting diyas in their home, especially during Diwali. Make sure that one does not light them near curtains or near electrical wiring, as the damage can be huge. People generally light diyas at the entrance of their homes, this can also be dangerous as there many people walking in and out of the home. Leaving your home when you have lit diyas is also not advisable since accidents might occur and spread beyond repair in absence of supervision.

5. Safety apps: One must install safety apps to make sure ones parents or friends know about their whereabouts. This will be of immense help during emergencies, as they can be alerted immediately and assistance can be given on time.

While celebrating festivals, people tend to get carried away and forget to take these safety precautions. One must be extra cautious during festivals and should consider safety as an utmost priority.
