As all of us get together to celebrate Diwali, we know one thing for sure. We are definitely not going to say no to any of the yummy Diwali food! But what follows after days of bingeing on chaklis, chivdas, karanjis, laddoos and mithais, is immense guilt. Some of us have been trying to eat healthy, exercise regularly and drink plenty of water. But what happens after the festive season? Will all this eating bring our weight loss efforts to a naught? Celeb nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar is well aware of these guilt-ridden thoughts we have in our heads. We re sure many of her famous clients have these too. So to allay our fears, Rujuta Diwekar gives us a few feel-good tips that will help you enjoy Diwali:

1. Sit crossed legged, close your eyes, hold on to your homemade mithai (ghugra/ laddoo/ barfi/ karanji) and allow your heart to be filled with gratitude for the goodness on your plate. This is your heritage, a piece of genius from the family heirloom of rich recipes, which was meant for your enjoyment. Made with the trust that you will recognise it for what it is, value it, learn to make it and pass on the goodness to your next generation. It s not just a mithai, it's a lesson in receiving and giving love.

2. We become what we eat and if we must be better than ourselves then we must learn to eat with compassion in our hearts for our stomachs and for the 815 million across the globe who go hungry every day. This is not just food on your plate, this is power to do more with your life. It is wisdom that we must not consume and get consumed by the small goals of weight loss but get so large that our life is able to touch and nourish at least one of those 815 million.

3. No matter how late or crazy the night, how bust the plans go of eating mindfully, when you wake up the next day - brush, drink water, eat your fruit and exercise, at least 5 rounds of Suryanamaskar, and get going with life. The body which holds you, carries you and the weight of your ambitions and aspirations, must receive its due. Without good health, we not meet our own expectations and we burden those around us with the weight of our unfulfilled dreams.

Essentially, Diwali is a festival of cleaning up our act-- of cleaning up every thought, habit and action that makes us who we are not - dull and dense. And just like a small lamp will light up the darkest night, a small act of eating right, going to bed on time, making time to exercise will light up our lives, turn us into the bright, illuminated beings we are meant to be!
