The pegan diet is supposedly a combination of the best of the popular paleo and vegan diet plans. The idea is to have as less dietary restrictions as possible and strike a better balance with regards to macronutrients. This will make the pegan diet easier to follow than a strictly paleo or vegan diet which many find to rigid and difficult to follow.

What is the pegan diet?

The pegan diet consists primarily of fruits and vegetable. About 75 per cent of your diet should be focused on plants and the other 25 per cent with animal protein like chicken, fish, and eggs and high-quality fats like olive, coconut, avocado oils, nuts and other sources of omega-3 fats and healthy grains and lentils.

In pegan diet, consumption of beans or legumes, dairy and soy are restricted and the intake of sugar kept to a minimum.

Benefits ofpegan diet

Since it combines both veganism and paleo, it does provide some incredible health benefits. In vegan diet, you can t consume meat and dairy products. Turning vegan has been known to increase beneficial gastrointestinal hormones, ward off diseases like cardiovascular diseases and diabetes, help you lose weight, get good skin and improve overall health. The paleo diet is based on consuming raw foods like our ancestors would do. This includes foods like fruits, vegetables. In this diet, you can also consume lean meats, mushrooms and nuts. You cannot eat dairy products, processed foods, grains and most oils while you are on a paleo diet. The paleo diet is known to be good for diabetics and even those who are trying to lose weight.
