In an inaugural ceremony of a new cafe run by neurodivergent people on the Delhi High Court premises earlier this week, the Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud revealed that he leads a vegan lifestyle, abstaining from eating or wearing animal products.
The soon to be retired CJI Chandrachud was present to inaugurate the newly built outlet of Sagar Ratna restaurant managed by neurodivergent people. What followed was a sweet and heartwarming insight into the personal life of Justice Chandrachud. While speaking at the launch, he opened up about how his specially abled daughters inspired him to turn vegan for life and lead to 'cruelty-free' life.
"I have two daughters Priyanka and Mahi who are specially-abled and they continue to inspire me in whatever I do. I have gone vegan recently because my daughter said we should lead a cruelty free life," said Justice Chandrachud.
CJI Chandrachud adopted his daughters in 2015.
A vegan lifestyle involves living aa life absolutely based on plant diet and not using animal products or products that might have been tested on animals. This means a cruelty-free life. A vegan diet involves plant-based foods like vegetables, nuts, fruits, beans, lentils, legumes and more. It does not contain dairy products like cow milk, eggs or paneer. Vegan people fulfill their dairy requirements by consuming plant milk like almond or coconut milk.
The popularity of leading a vegan life is growing speedily across the globe given the health and ecological impact it leaves. A vegan lifestyle offers numerous health benefits and reduces the carbon-footprint meaning a healthy contribution in reducing the catastrophic effects of global warming.
