Weight loss tip #201: Eat carbs towards the end of your meal

Every time you weigh yourself on the scale, you are going to regret all the extra servings of rice and chapati you couldn't say no to. The only good part about carbs is that it makes you feel full and promotes a sense of satisfaction. This is why so many people feel that their meals are incomplete without the final serving of daal and rice or curd rice in the case of South Indians. It doesn't matter how much they have eaten before; satiety comes only after a bowlful of white rice. The problem is that with carbs, there is always a tendency to go overboard. And no matter where you are from, in India, the bulk of the meals comprise carbs and the vegetables and proteins forming just a small portion. But going off carbs is not healthy either. You need all your major macros -- fats, proteins and carbohydrates-- for overall health. So it's always best to plan your meals in such a manner that your body is not deprived of anything. Either you can take a small portion of carbs and bigger portion of vegetables and protein, or save carbs for the last. Can cutting down on sugar really help you lose weight?

This means, you start with cooked vegetables, proteins in the form of lentils and meat products and then finish your meal with chapati, roti, bread or rice. This way, by the time you get to carbs, you will already be full and won't have room in your stomach to go overboard with the rotis and the rice, saving you some serious calories.
