If you have someone cooking your food for you, chances are you are arguing every day about the amount of oil used in the sabzi or the choice of an ingredient. And if you are accustomed to ordering in or eating out, you should stop wondering why your weight loss plans aren't working. Whether you are a singleton living alone in the city or married with children, the only weight loss tip you should be focusing on is self reliance. Because cooking your own food helps you lose weight.

Entering the kitchen is the last thing on your mind when you come back home dog tired. That's why many working professionals living in the metros hire maids to cook their food. The downside is that these maids do not have a background in nutrition (obviously) so there is no point in throwing a fit every time they go overboard with the butter on the parantha. Restaurants, on the other hand, focus on taste alone so eating out is not such a great idea either. Even the healthiest thing on the menu may be more calorific than most of your home-cooked meals.

Researchers at the John Hopkins University extolled the benefits of cooking your own meals, saying that one tends to consume 140 calories lesser than usual when they do so. Apart from that, your overall intake of fats and sugars are also lesser when you prepare your own food.

Another 2007 analysis published in the Journal of Obesity stated that individuals who have 25 percent of their total daily calories outside their homes are more likely to be sedentary. A 2005 study in the Lancet also found that people who frequent restaurants more than twice a week gained 4.5 kgs more and had more insulin resistance that those who eat home-cooked meals. Can staying away from fat shaming friends can help you lose weight?

Cooking for your own self can be a very therapeutic experience. Shopping for fresh ingredients and planning your meals can be a stress buster. Since you are in charge, you can control the fats, the carbs and the sugar as per your liking instead of sparring with your maid every day. When you cook your own food, you also tend to move around more in the kitchen, helping you knock off a few more calories while you are at it. But bear in mind that you are supposed to cook healthy. Cooking high-caloric, fatty food will obviously not give the same results.
