If you have been ignoring beetroot for a long time, then you are doing it all wrong. Beetroot is low in fat, jam-packed with antioxidants, Vitamin C and A, calcium, iron and can help you stay healthy and hearty. Moreover, drinking beetroot juice can help you detox as beetroots are a potent source of betalains a type of phytonutrient and have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and detoxification properties which can help cleanse your liver and eliminate all the toxins from your body. Thus, it is known to protect your liver and enhance the functioning of it. Not only this, along with other compounds like methionine and glycine, it also helps prevents fatty acids from building up and may stimulate the liver cells. So, what are you waiting for? Beetroot juice can help in opening the blood vessels and increases the flow of oxygen throughout your body. You will feel active and full of energy and can improve your stamina.

It can ease your digestion process

Do you often suffer from indigestion? Then, you should opt for beetroot juice. “Beetroot juice is full of fibre and can help you regulate your digestive process and beat constipation,” explains Ankita Ghag, Clinical Dietician, InBody India. Beetroots are also abundant in betaine, an agent which can be beneficial for good digestive health. Reportedly, betaine can help increases stomach acid levels, in order to enhance your digestion. So, speak to your expert about the quantity in which you should drink it. Avoid going overboard.

It can help you bring your numbers down

High blood pressure can invite stroke, heart attack and many other health issues. Hence, one should make constant efforts to regulate blood pressure. Exercise can help you do so. But, along with it, you will also have to make some dietary changes. You can drink beetroot juice to lower your blood pressure. Various studies suggest that the presence of nitrates in beets can help you do so. The nitrates can help increase nitric oxide found in the blood vessels which allow more oxygen to flow to your brain, heart and muscles. Thus, helps reduce high blood pressure.

It can help lower inflammation

According to a study published in the journal Nutrients, beetroot is a promising therapeutic treatment in a range of clinical pathologies linked with oxidative stress and inflammation. Its constituents, most notably the betalain pigments, display potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and chemo-preventive properties and can reduce chronic inflammation. Inflammation may be a sign of your immune system acting up in response to trauma or infection. But the symptoms like redness, swelling, and pain, can be discomforting. So, try to drink beetroot juice and you may feel better.

It can help you combat anaemia

Anaemia can be termed as a condition where the blood has low haemoglobin levels. Hence, beetroots are loaded with phosphorous, magnesium, potassium, zinc, calcium, iodine, sulfur, copper, fat, vitamins B1, B2, B6, and niacin, and can help you tackle anaemia. This is so because, beets can aid in repairing and reactivating the red blood cells present in your body, which further can increase the supply of oxygen to all parts of your body.

The takeaway message: You should not drink beetroot juice in large quantity as excessive intake can lead to low calcium levels and worsen kidney disease. Some people may also experience allergic reactions to beetroot which may include rashes and itchiness. Moreover, few studies also revealed that pregnant women are more sensitive to the effects of nitrite and beets are abundant in nitrate. So, pregnant women should avoid drinking beetroot juice.
