Russian President Vladimir Putin, 73, receives a warm welcome in India as he arrives for a two-day summit this week. While the global eyes are focused on every move he makes in India, what aroused curiosity is his high-protein and low-sugar diet, which is often referenced in Russian state media.
According to a local media report in Russia, breakfast is one of the most consistent part of Vladimir Putin's day. The Russian President reportedly starts his day with porridge, accompanied by a serving of tvorog, which is a traditional fermented Eastern European fresh cheese, mixed with honey. After that session, Vladimir Putin's breakfast includes raw quail eggs which is taken as a drink rather than being cooked. Additionally, a mix of beetroot and horseradish juice is also featured in his breakfast.
Vladimir Putin does not have a taste palette for sweets, but rather enjoys green produce. In a 2017 interview, he told the media, "I like vegetables: Tomatoes, cucumbers, salad. In the morning - porridge, cottage cheese and honey. If there's a choice between meat and fish, I prefer fish. I also like lamb."
The 73-year-old Russian President travels a lot. So, what he eats as he keeps moving from one destination to another city is a different story. He told the media, "When I go somewhere, I'm pleased to try the local cuisine. I'm accustomed to green tea... I usually don't have dinner, I don't have time. In the afternoon I try to eat fruit, to drink kefir when it's available - and when it's not, I prefer not to eat anything at all."
Apart from chicken eggs, another popular breakfast staple is quail eggs, which are served widely across the globe. Quail eggs come from a medium-sized bird that is found in Europe, North Africa, Asia and the southern US. According to healthcare professionals, quail eggs are loaded with protein and good fats that can positively impact your overall well-being.
Eating quail eggs moderately every day can help you boost immunity, treat allergies, increase energy, boost metabolism and also improve vision. WebMD states, "They are a healthy and delicious way to add more protein, vitamins, and minerals to your diet, so enjoy them in moderation."
Cottage cheese is low in calories and a great source of protein and calcium. Experts suggest that consuming cottage cheese moderately can help improve bone health, manage type 2 diabetes and maintain a healthy weight. However, they suggest that cottage cheese naturally contains high sodium. So, if you are watching your salt intake, you have to be careful.
"If you have high blood pressure or heart disease, you should watch your salt intake, keeping it in the range of 1,500-2,000 milligrams every day," WebMD explains. "If you're adding cottage cheese to your diet, you may need to cut back sodium elsewhere. For a healthy person, about 2,300 milligrams of sodium a day is a reasonable level."
