Vitamin D is termed as a fat-soluble mineral which is formed in the skin when it is exposed to UVB rays in direct sunlight. This vitamin is beneficial for maintaining stronger bones, muscles, teeth, cell growth control, proper immune and neuromuscular functioning. Moreover, vitamin D deficiency can lead to rickets, where the bones fail to develop and function properly. According to a study published in the journal Clinical Cancer Research, there is a connection between low blood levels of vitamin D and aggressive prostate cancer. While another study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine revealed that men with severe erectile dysfunction (ED) had significantly lower vitamin D levels when compared to men with mild ED. Hence, it is recommended to get your daily dose of vitamin D. So, just eat these foods which will help you do so.
1: You can opt for mushrooms
"Mushrooms are the only plant source which contains vitamin D. It grows in sunlight and absorbs sunlight as well. Thus, it is a good source of vitamin D. Furthermore, mushrooms are also abundant in B-complex vitamins like B1, B2, B5 and copper. Likewise, shitake mushrooms are considered as the best source of vitamin D among all mushrooms," says Ankita Ghag, Clinical Dietician, InBody India. The other benefits of mushroom also include protecting heart health, boosting immunity and weight loss. Make sure that you eat them in the amount suggested by your expert.
2: You can opt for salmon
Do you know that salmon has a good amount of vitamin D? Yes, you have heard us here! "Salmon has a high-fat content and is an excellent source of vitamin D. So, don't forget to add it into your daily diet," explains Ghag.
3: You can opt for Mackerels
Mackerels are jam-packed with omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants and vitamin K and can be helpful for your heart health. Yes, we are not kidding here! They can also help you lower your triglyceride levels. "Furthermore, the vitamin D content in them can help you get to stay fit and fine. Thus, you will be able to get those minerals and vitamins much-needed for your body," says Ghag.
4: You can opt for sardines
Sardines have an insane amount of health benefits. Not only this, they are one of the most popular sources of vitamin D. "You will be surprised to know that they are loaded with vitamin B12, omega-3 fatty acids, protein, and selenium and high omega-3 fatty acid content present in it can help you build stronger bones, lower your cholesterol and help you get rid of inflammation," highlights Ghag.
5: You can opt for eggs
Eggs have vitamin D and can be eaten daily. Along with vitamin D, eggs are also jam-packed with vitamin B12 and protein. They can be beneficial for your heart as well.
6: You can opt orange juice
You can drink orange juice as it is also rich in vitamin D and can help you to get rid of inflammation, strengthen your immunity, enhance your cholesterol levels and manage your blood pressure.
7: You can opt for shrimps
Shrimps are loaded with vitamin D, omega-3s, protein, selenium and antioxidants. They can also be a good choice.
