During summer, many of us plan to go to amusement parks for fun and recreation. And do you find adventurous rides -- the roller coasters, slides, cliffhangers etc. exciting? Do you suffer from stomach upset and vomiting? Do you feel giddy while opting for rides? Rutika Murudkar, a clinical nutritionist at Naraindas Morbai Budhrani, tells you how to enjoy your rides safely.

  • Don t consider going for any high-intensity rides, if you are a heart patient or if you have a back pain or any serious health condition. Also, consult your doctor and do all the tests recommended by him/her.
  • Check the weather report before going to an amusement park.
  • As a precautionary measure, ensure that the rides are safe and wear safety harness
  • Wear light clothing during summer.
  • Take a break from time to time and relax.
  • Don t force yourself to try all the rides: Check the criteria mentioned for the rides and see if you fit in the parameters of it. If you are pregnant, then be careful and avoid going on the rides.
  • Avoid consuming heavy meals and stay hydrated.
  • Pre-ride food consumption: Eat 3 hours before opting for any ride. Consume light meals and avoid fatty foodstuffs and carbonated drinks before opting for rides. Eat soft food, for eg - khichidi, upma and so on. Drink a mocktail, smoothie or a milkshake, which is thick in consistency.
  • Post ride, don t eat for at least an hour. Cooldown yourself. Make sure your body temperature, BP and pulse rate is normal.Look out for healthy food options by eating mindfully.
  • Once your body cools down you can have foodstuffs which are not oily and spicy.
