Another common kitchen ingredient that can be used as a natural alternative to shaving cream is coconut oil. All you have to do is rub the skin with coconut oil (or any other oil if you don't have one) and then start shaving for a smooth shave.
Whether it is cooking, baking or making lattes, almost all healthy recipes call for coconut oil. Yes, it can be extremely healthy to use coconut oil for every type of cooking but how much is too much? You cannot ignore the fact that coconut oil is also high in fats and you must consume coconut oil in limited quantities. Nutritionist Urvashi Sawhney gives you the low down on how much coconut oil you should consume in a day.
One tablespoon of coconut oil contains around 11g of saturated fat. And since saturated fat can raise your cholesterol levels, they should make no more than 10 percent of your calories in a day. It s important to keep in mind that whichever oil you choose to consume, your overall fat intake should be around 20 percent of your total calorie intake. That being said, about half of the saturated fats in coconut oil are lauric acid, which may also increase your levels of HDL cholesterol the good kind. However, one teaspoon coconut oil also contains around 40.5 calories. So stick to just one to two tablespoons of coconut oil in a day especially if you are watching your weight. Here's how to buy the right variety of extra virgin olive oil.
