Detox, often referred to as a full-body detox, is done to remove toxins from the body. Usually, people prefer to eat and drink certain kinds of foods to flush out unwanted substances from the body, but experts believe that if your diet is generally clean and you drink plenty of water every day, your body will be able to flush out all the unnecessary products naturally, without you having to do anything rigid and complicated. According to nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar, there are certain myths associated with detox that need to be busted.

In a video shared on her official Instagram account, Diwekar explained that the best detox is 'getting back to normal life'. "Normal food, normal workouts, normal sleep. Too little food, too much exercise is simply swinging from one extreme to another. It will only hurt your cause and waste your time. Just get back to your normal life," she stated.

The Four 'S' Of Detox To Avoid

The expert also said there are four things that one must avoid when they are trying to detox. Wondering what they are? Read on.

  1. Salad: Avoid any kind of detox that involves a salad. Usually, people think being on a salad diet is good for the body, as it flushes out toxins. But, depending on one kind of food means you are depriving your body of essential nutrients that come from wholesome meals.
  2. Soup: Detox involving soups should also be avoided, because it does no good.
  3. Smoothie: The reason being that smoothies are also devoid of wholesome nutrients, and must be consumed along with other proper meals. Smoothies are less filling than other foods and may only lead to short-term weight loss.
  4. Starvation: Avoid any kind of detox where you have to starve yourself, because you derive no health benefits out of it.

The Detox 'S' That You Must Focus On

Diwekar went on to explain that there are other things you can do, which can benefit the body, help you in the long run and save your health. Read on.

  1. Sit: Every time that you eat, make sure you sit down. Do not eat while standing or walking. Preferably sit cross-legged on the floor for proper digestion of food.
  2. Senses: Eat with all your senses. The expert said when you eat while sitting, make sure you relish your food and eat it mindfully. Use your hands to break the roti, use your nose to smell the food, use your eyes to see what it is that you are eating, and allow your tongue to taste the food. Chew the food well.
  3. Slow: Eat slowly. Do not be in a rush when you are consuming a meal. Make sure to relish every bite that you eat, said Diwekar, and turn every solid morsel into liquid before gulping it. This is the correct way to detox. Make sure that you enjoy your food and it gets digested well.

The expert concluded by saying that good health is not built in a few days or months. One has to stay consistent and committed.
