Diwali is the biggest festival in India and the whole nation celebrates it. It is a time for festivities, celebration and rejoicing with rituals and feasts. As families get together to celebrate the festival of lights, food becomes central to the celebrations too. In the modern times, however, you need to be beware of what you eat. If we are not careful about the things we bring to our table, things might go seriously wrong and lead to fatalities or cause serious damage to your families health. And this is true, especially when it comes to Diwali sweets and adulteration. Moreover, pregnant women have to extra careful with the food they eat. Dr Rita Bakshi, Chairperson, International Fertility Centre, New Delhi explains how to avoid food adulteration. Beware of these 5 foods that could be adulterated during festive seasons.
Food adulteration happens due to a number of factors. Sometimes the food business operators are unaware of the regulations or the workers might lack training. However, there are enough instances where the adulteration is deliberate with the intent to stretch the profit margins thus making the food potentially harmful, especially for pregnant women.
It is wise to avoid or limit the intake of store-bought sweets during the festive season because the case of adulteration is also on the rise. And according to reports, these sweets might lead to gastroenteritis or acidity, dampening the festive spirit.
