A new study in the Journal of Developmental Science has said that vegan meals increase beneficial gastrointestinal hormones, compared with the non-vegan meal. These hormones are involved in the regulation of glucose metabolism, insulin secretion, energy homeostasis, satiety, and weight management. Veganism refers to a concept that stems from responsibility towards animals/animal products and towards the need for a healthier lifestyle. In a vegan diet, you can t eat dairy and meat products. Since the past few years, veganism has become hugely popular across the world. A number of research studies claim that vegan diet helps ward off diseases, helps you lose weight, get good skin and improve overall health. Good for the skin: A vegan diet is rich in green vegetables like spinach, kale and others as well as fruits. These provide all the essential nutrients for soft, supple skin. Not just this, some vegan skin care products are good for your skin too because they are generally made from plants and minerals. These usually do not contain harmful chemicals. More environment-friendly: A study published in journal Frontiers in Nutrition claims that a diet high in fruit and vegetables is better for the environment than one rich in animal products. This is mainly due to the high energy requirements of livestock farming as well as the very large contribution of livestock to greenhouse gas emissions.

Lowers cholesterol: A study in the journal Nutrition Reviews says that vegan diet can significantly help lower the levels of cholesterol known to increase the risk of heart disease and stroke. The findings showed that long-term adherence to plant-based eating patterns leads to changes in body composition which help in reducing the cholesterol levels.

Heart-healthy and diabetic-friendly: Vegan diet can be beneficial for diabetes as a new study has found that it may improve glycemic control, cholesterol and lead to weight loss in people with Type 2 diabetes. The researchers suggest that plant-based diets benefit both glycemic control and cardiovascular health because they are low in saturated fat, rich in phytochemicals, high in fibre and often rich in low-glycemic fruits and vegetables.
