Diet Tip #43 - Avoid drinking coffee before sleep
Coffee lowers the risk of skin cancer: A lifestyle study indicated that dietary changes can definitely affect incidence of skin cancer. The findings of the study also revealed that caffeine content of the coffee is responsible for the reduced cancer risk among the study group.

Drinking coffee few hours before sleeping may also leave you with a headache, nausea, anxiety, depression, restlessness and rapid heartbeat all of which can hamper your sleep.

If you have difficulty sleeping, sipping coffee is the last thing you would want to consume before going to bed. The caffeine in coffee is a stimulant that helps you stay awake. Caffeinated beverages are also diuretics which will make you want to visit the bathroom one too many times at night invariably rendering you sleepless. So it is advisable to avoid coffee, tea, chocolates and cola at least three to four hours before going to bed. Read how nutmeg can help you beat insomnia.

Drinking coffee few hours before sleeping may also leave you with headache, nausea, anxiety, depression, restlessness and rapid heartbeat, all of which can hamper your sleep. You may also experience caffeine intoxication with too much of caffeine intake, a condition that can lead to diarrhoea, vomiting, muscle weakness and weight loss. Caffeine is also one of the most common triggers of heartburn and acid reflux.

It would be a good idea to limit your caffeine intake to 400 mg per day or switch to lightly brewed herbal tea like chamomile tea or green tea. If you consume more than 3 cups of coffee a day, you may increase your chances of developing insomnia. If the coffee is your favourite beverage, sipping the last cup of coffee by 5 in the evening is the best you can do to get a good night s sleep.
