Did you know that having oats can reduce your cholesterol levels? Yes, it's a rich source of fibre that contains beta glucan. The best thing about this fibre is that it's the only kind of fibre that our body absorbs. They have a natural capacity to bind in with cholesterols circulating in the blood. This, in a way, helps the body to eliminate the 'bad' cholesterols. Our expert, Anusuya Suresh suggests the consumption of oats meals on a regular basis, so as to control the 'bad' cholesterol levels. She further states that an intake of about 5 grams of soluble fibre in a day can help cut LDL 'bad' cholesterol by almost 5 percent.
Tip: Substituting oats with a small portion of rice in preparations like rice, pongal or dosa batter can help your body control the 'bad' cholesterol levels and also keep you feeling fuller throughout the day.
