How does a crepe bandage help during sprains or strains? Doesn t it restrict circulation when tied tightly around the injured area? Please suggest if using crepe bandage is a good idea.
Strains and sprains are common forms of injury during most physical activities. You may be well familiar with the concept of RICE whenever you suffer from a sprain or strain during sports or workouts. This formula of first aid involves resting the injured part, applying ice on the area to prevent swelling and pain, compressing the area and then keeping the injured area elevated. These steps help in preventing further injury or damage to the already sprained or strained area.

Crepe bandages aid in the compression stage. Tying the crepe bandage around the injured part will avoid further swelling and restrict movement of that part. Often, a wrong movement or twist could result in further strain on the muscle or tendon and increase complications. The bandage holds the area in place by providing support and protects it. However, the bandage must not be tied too tightly because that could restrict the blood circulation. If you feel increased pain or a tingling sensation, remove the crepe bandage and tie it again snugly. It is important that you remove the crepe bandage before going to bed. Crepe bandages must be used for minor injuries and sprains. However, if the pain does not decrease even after the basic first aid and rest of few hours, you must visit an orthopedic for consultation.
