Healthy chicken rolls that your children will love making and eating!

I am the type of parent who focuses more on life skills than academics, especially with a toddler. Children, in my opinion, will eventually learn their alphabets and numbers. But discipline, focus and doing your work are habits that need to be inculcated. This is why I try to engage my toddler in ‘real world’ work as much as possible. From putting away the dishes to sorting the laundry, I let her help me and even do things independently. One thing that I like to do with her is cooking. I want her to have a healthy outlook towards food and cooking together also gives me an opportunity to tell her what healthy eating means and why we eat specific things. Given her age, I need to design recipes that she can be a part of. Chicken rolls is one thing that requires minimal cooking and is perfect for a toddler’s hands. Here’s the recipe: Also Read - Suffering from gestational diabetes? Here is what you should eat

Ingredients

  • Wholegrain chapati or tortillas – 4
  • Chicken, boiled and sliced – 1 cup
  • Seasoning (salt, pepper and oregano mix) – as per taste
  • Sour cream — 1/2 cup
  • Lettuce or iceberg — 1 cup
  • Shredded carrots — 1/2 cup
  • Black and green olives — 1/2 cup

Steps

  • Heat a pan and put some oil or butter in it. Put it in the sliced chicken and let it toast in it till it turns golden. Sprinkle some seasoning on it and mix. Keep aside and let it cool.
  • Now take 4 plates and 2 bowls. In the plates, arrange the tortillas, chicken, lettuce and shredded carrots. Put the sour cream and olives in the bowls. Arrange all this on your work area.
  • Now show your child how to make a roll or wrap. Take one tortilla, spread a spoon of sour cream, top it with lettuce, carrot, olives and then finally with chicken. Wrap it in a roll.
  • Now help your child make rest of the wraps.

You can either have it just like it, or grill it in a panini maker.
