Being a parent is rewarding, beautiful, amazing as well as scary. For most parents bringing up a child can be a roller coaster ride. Yoga cannot only help improve your physical and mental health but also help you become a better parent. From helping you stay in the present to managing stress, yoga can have several benefits. Yoga expert, Abhishek Sharma tells you how yoga helps you become a better parent and recommends every parent to perform these yoga poses.
Helps you stay in present
Yoga can help you slow down and become more aware of the present. Yoga poses like dhanurasana and bhuangasana can help you become more mindful and stay more in the present moment with your kid. Mindfulness will help you appreciate and notice the fun moments with your child.
Deal with anger
No matter how many times you remind yourself not to get angry, you are unable to control it, especially when your child acts very fussy. Restless body and mind can make you very angry. A few rounds of sun salutations or surya namaskar in the morning can help you calm down. The series of yoga asanas in surya namaskar will ease the stiffness from your body, which will result in a relaxed and happy mind.
Makes you calm
Yoga can help you stay calmer so that you can deal better with your cranky toddler. It will help you approach situations with a calmer mind. When you are tensed, your breath becomes shallow and rapid. Deep breathing practices or pranayama like anulom vilom can slow you down and help you take better and quicker decisions.
Boosts your energy levels
Those nights of little sleep on a rocking chair with a sick child can be very tiring. Yoga is a great stress buster that can increase your energy levels. Yoga poses like uttanasana and matsyasana will lift your spirit and energy levels. If you feel too stressed and need a moment, practice the simple seated forward bend or paschimottanasana. If you are feeling too sluggish, a gentle backward bend like setubandhasana can give a quick boost of energy.
So just when you feel it is getting difficult for you to handle your child, practice some yoga.
