Ayushmann Khurrana in a hot, bulked up avatar for Bewakoofiyan!

Ayushmann Khurrana Six Pack AbsI first saw Ayushmann Khurrana as a goofy MTV VJ who tried really hard to be funny. His performance in spoofs of Jodha Akbar and Chak De India were sincere, but nothing noteworthy. It was only after watching Vicky Donor that I was inspired by how the actor has climbed the stairs of stardom and made his mark in Bollywood. However, stardom comes at a price and to maintain it a man needs to work harder. Ayushmann has certainly done that in terms of his physique for his new movie Bewakoofiyan. In an exclusive interview, we spoke to his trainer Vinod Channa who shared with us how he got Ayushmann in shape.

Ayushmann Khurrana was quite lean in his first movie. How did you make him bulk up?

Ayushmann Khurrana's body type was that of ectomorph which meant that he didn't put on weight too easily. He came to my house and told me that he wanted to have a good physique for this movie as he was playing a squash player. We had two months to get him in shape, and with proper diet and exercise, we were able to reach the target.

What were some of the problem areas you addressed while training Ayushmann?

I first had to work on his form and technique, as he didn't have much weight training experience from before. Also, he was very stiff so I made him do a bit of yoga to improve his flexibility. Without flexibility, if I made him do weight training exercises then there are chances of injury.

How much time did it take for you to get Ayushmann in shape? How do you decide on the right training pattern for your clients?

Every individual's requirements are different. Some people have a weak lower back due to desk jobs, some have knee problems, etc. So we decide the training pattern on that basis, and on the basis of the time the actor has to get in shape. After that, continuous analysis is necessary. We don't stick to a fixed pattern but instead made diet and workout changes based on what reaction the body is showing. It was not like I just gave him a 50-day-diet and workout regime and his body was made.

Q: Ayushmann is quite popular with the ladies. Do you think they will like this new avatar of his?

I think this is the body that females like. It is not like a hardcore bodybuilder's body, but he is fit and with visible six-pack abs. After watching the movie, I think a lot of people will try and get a body like this.

Q: Getting fit is one thing, staying fit is another. Did you work with Ayushmann while the movie was shot?

He trained continuously. After that also now he is training for his next film where he has to lift an overweight lady and run. So for that we had to strengthen his lower back and we did that using some extreme yoga poses. Read about how Shilpa Shetty manages to stay fit even after all these years.

Q: Ayushmann has often admitted to being a foodie. Was it difficult to make him control his urges?

It was very difficult for him to control his temptations when it comes to diet. He feels hungry every hour and loves to eat food. Earlier, I even caught him cheating on his diet and warned him, that bro, you cannot afford to cheat as we have very less time.

Vinod Channa is one of India's most prolific Bollywood trainers having trained actors like Ayushmann Khurrana, Shilpa Shetty, Riteish Deshmukh and John Abraham.
