Yoga can be your best bet if you want to get rid of excess weight from areas around the thighs. Ardha uttanasana or standing half forward bend is one such posture that stretches your hips, lower back, hamstrings and calves while strengthening and toning your thighs and legs. It works on your core and helps you build abdominal muscles. It is also very beneficial in improving flexibility of the spine and the muscles of the legs. Additionally, this asana increases your lung capacity and helps beat stress. You can also try these yoga poses to beat stress.

How to do the pose:

  • To perform this asana, stand straight and raise your hands from the front to above your head. Inhale slowly while you do this.
  • Exhale and bend forward, completely pushing your buttocks back. Your palms should touch the floor and your forehead the knees.
  • From this position, come up with your fingertips while drawing your shoulders back and raising your head.
  • Make sure that your spine is flat, and your knees are not locked. Hold this position for as long as possible and continue to breathe slowly.
  • Breathing in, release and slowly come back to the starting position.

Tip:

  • If you find it difficult to keep your spine straight, you can support your back on the wall.

A word of caution:

  • Do not attempt this pose if you have any serious lower back issues or injury in your lower back or at the back of your legs.
  • If you have a neck injury, you should not lift your neck and look forward.
