3 reasons soy should definitely be on tonight’s menu

Soy and Soy products are known to be healthy. We all know they are a good source of protein and readily include it in our diets in the form of soybeans, tofu, soy milk, etc. But, apart from being a protein-rich food, soy contains various antioxidants that protect you from many health conditions. 1. Good for your heart: Various studies have shown soy products to improve one’s heart health. Soy is rich isoflavones, a type of antioxidants, and they help in reduce LDL or bad cholesterol levels [1]. Also Read - Diet rich in soya can improve bone health in women, says study

2. Reduces menopausal symptoms in women: Isoflavones in soy products are also phytoestrogens (estrogen-like compound from plant sources). Studies have found that this phytoestrogen helps in reducing menopausal symptoms like hot flashes and night sweats in women [2].

3. Prevents kidney diseases: A protein rich food is often thought to increase one’s risk of kidney disease, but a study shows that replacing animal protein with soy protein reduces the risk of kidney disease. The study also found that substituting animal protein with soy protein also prevents diabetic nephropathy, a complication of diabetes [3].
