11 ways to include flaxseeds in your diet

Flaxseeds can be consumed in numerous ways and in many dishes such as chikkis, yoghurt, warm milk or chicken.

Flaxseeds or alsi are one of the best sources of omega-3 fatty acids, which are commonly found in non-vegetarian foods. Hence, vegetarians are recommended to include flaxseeds in their diet to reap their amazing benefits. Here are 11 practical ways you can add flaxseeds to your diet.

#1: Roasted flaxseeds

Most people do not like to consume plain flaxseeds, so the trick for them is to roast them and eat. This not only makes them tastier but also adds a crunchy flavour.

#2: Warm water

You can also try adding flaxseed powder to fruit juices. All you need to do is add a teaspoon of flaxseed powder to a glass (150 ml) of juice.

If you like eating yoghurt or curd, then flaxseed raita is a delicious option you must try. Add one cup of grated lauki, one cup of dahi, one and half tablespoon of roasted and coarsely ground alsi, half teaspoon of black salt and sugar in a bowl. Add one teaspoon of powdered flaxseeds in a glass of warm milk. Drink this solution before sleeping as it increases serotonin levels in the body and thus, induces good sleep.

If adding flaxseeds to salads or juices does not suit your taste buds, then try to add them to muffins or cupcakes. One tablespoon of flaxseeds added onto a medium-sized cupcake or muffin not only provides proteins but also makes them more nutritious and healthy.

In case you are not too happy eating the seeds in their roasted form or as garnishing ingredients of your daily meals, add them to rotis or parathas to reap their health benefits. Add flaxseed powder to the flour and prepare rotis with it.

Flaxseeds not only provide a rich taste and flavour to vegetarian dishes but also give a unique taste when added to non-vegetarian dishes like chicken. You can sprinkle one tablespoon of flaxseed powder while preparing your dish or add this powder to garnish the food. Another way to add flaxseeds to your diet is to add them to kanji such as rice/rye/barley. It not only improves the overall fibre content but also renders numerous health benefits and protects from disease. You should consume this drink in the morning and when warm for good results.

Note: As any other food, excess consumption of flaxseeds can be bad for your health. According to experts, not more than 2 tablespoons of flaxseeds (which give you approximately 4 g of proteins) should be consumed on a daily basis.
