Any disruption to the healthy, normal bacterial environment inside your vagina can lead to the excessive growth of yeast, and that also includes the type of foods you eat. So if you get a recurring yeast infection, nutritionist Khushboo Sahijwani, recommends you cut down on these foods.
Refined carbohydrates: Consuming refined carbohydrates like white bread creates a hospitable environment for the yeast and greatly increases the likelihood of suffering from yeast infections. Also, when you eat bread, the solid yeast remains in your intestinal tract for an undetermined amount of time that can aggravate the condition. Also, avoid highly refined carbohydrates such as pasta and tortillas to decrease the risk of developing the infection. Here are 8 causes of vaginal dryness every woman should know.
Sugar: High intake of sugar also promotes the production of yeast. This is because yeast like candida feed on sugar and thus a diet rich in sugar creates an environment for the yeast to breed and proliferate. So avoid indulging in candy, syrup, chocolates, and ice-cream. Fruits such as raisins, bananas, prunes and pomegranates are also high in fructose. Your breakfast cereals also contain a large amount of added sugar so steer clear of them.
Alcohol: Limit your intake of alcohol as it also promotes the growth of yeast. All types of alcohol including beer, wine, rum, gin, vodka and whiskey contain high levels of yeast. When your intake of alcohol is large, the yeast gets absorbed into your blood stream that causes or aggravates the yeast infection. Alcohol also contains a lot of sugar which encourages the yeast growth. To ease the vaginal dryness, you can try using coconut oil.
Saturated fats: Excessive intake of saturated fats can disrupt your immune system making it easier for the yeast to grow and thrive. So try and eliminate sources of saturated fat such as full-fat dairy, processed meat, butter and cheese from your diet. Instead, load up on nuts and fishes like salmon on tuna which is rich in omega 3 and omega-6 fatty acids.
