Hi, I am a 32-year-old woman. I am married with two children. Recently, while I noticed that one of my bra cups was feeling tighter. When I looked closely, I could see that my left breast has grown noticeably more than my right breast. Since I read up a lot on the internet, I was quite worried, wondering whether it is the dreaded C word. Could you please guide me and tell me whether it is something to worry about? Normally, one breast can be slightly bigger than the other and is not a cause for any alarm or worry. Very few women have completely symmetrical breasts. Lactation: If you have recently given birth or you are still breastfeeding your child, one breast may appear bigger than the other one. This is probably because one of your breasts is not producing as much milk as the other. In such cases, you can stimulate more milk production in the other breast by nursing the child more on the smaller breast. Even if you don t, it is not a cause for worry.

Cysts: If a fluid-filled sac develops inside your breast, it can cause temporary enlargement. It is a benign condition which is diagnosed through self-examination of by a doctor.

Infection: Sometimes, breasts can develop mastitis or inflammation of the tissues inside the breasts. It usually affects one of the breasts and can cause considerable pain, nipple discharge and swelling. If you are experiencing these three symptoms, then the reason for the enlargement might be mastitis. Do get it checked at the earliest.

Breast abscesses: A painful collection of pus can develop inside the breast, causing it to appear larger or distended. In such cases, there could be pain, heat or fever accompanying it.

Breast tumours or breast cancer: A mass of abnormal tissue growth or tumour inside the breast can make it appear larger. In some cases, the tumour is benign; there is no cause for worry. But if it is malignant, it has to be dealt with at the earliest.
