Wheat grass juice — the perfect remedy for period pain

Pain before and during periods is one of the most common disorders women face and it has a huge impact on their day to day lives. The hormonal imbalances wreak havoc with their body and can cause anxiety, hypersensitivity, mood swings, fatigue, anger, irritability, depression, poor concentration, abdominal cramps, bloating, swelling, acne among other problems. It is believed that exercising regularly helps in alleviating this pain. Many women also swear by natural remedies like cinnamon or applying lavender oil and one such effective natural remedy is wheat grass juice. Also Read - 5 foods you should avoid during your period

You might have read that wheat grass helps you in losing weight and that it has many health benefits. But it is highly effective in relieving you from menstrual cramps and pain. Dr Namrata Bharambe, Panache Skin & Hair Clinic & Slimming Centre, says that wheat grass contains minerals like calcium, iron, sodium, magnesium, potassium and vitamins such as vitamin A, B, C and E and also helps in relieving menstrual problems like PMS.

A study published in the Iranian Journal of Pharmaceutical Research [1] says that wheat germ too, helps in relieving symptoms of PMS. The study says that since wheat germ is a storehouse of minerals like calcium and magnesium and vitamin B6, it helps in relieving from menstrual cramps and other symptoms of PMS. The study also says that wheat germ extract does not affect bleeding and has no side effects.

How to use wheat grass to relieve menstrual pain

Wheat grass is easily available fresh as well as in powdered form. However, it is best you grow it at home as then you will be sure of its quality. To grow wheatgrass at home, just sow some wheat grains in a pot with mud. Water it regularly and wait for it to grow. Dr Bharambe says use wheat grass once it is more than seven days old. Just cut it, wash and grind with water. Sieve and drink the juice.
