The heart's role is that it works tirelessly to keep you alive. It performs various bodily functions like removing waste and providing oxygen-rich blood to cells. One needs to understand that a healthy heart is more than just staying away from health issues, Dr Bipeenchandra Bhamre, consultant cardiac surgeon at Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre in Mumbai points out.
According to the doctor, a healthy heart increases one's ability to enjoy life, maintain strength and energy. "You tend to feel good, active, sleep better, and handle daily tasks effortlessly when your heart is performing various functions and is in good shape. A healthy heart plays a crucial role in reducing your chances of experiencing life-threatening health issues like heart attacks, strokes, high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats), heart failure, cardiomyopathy (weakening of the heart muscle), aortic disease (issues with the aorta, the main artery), peripheral artery disease (reduced blood flow to limbs), angina (chest pain), valvular heart disease (issues with heart valves), congenital heart defects (heart structure problems present from birth). One should take proactive steps to keep their heart healthy for the betterment of health," the doctor states.
Understanding that your heart is healthy and performing well can help you stay motivated and maintain healthy habits in the long run, says Dr Bhamre.
