Gout is a condition which arises due to defective metabolism that leads to accumulation of uric acid in the joints, especially, at the feet and hands and can be a prime cause of arthritis leading to deformity of joints along with acute pain. There are times when wrong food choices can make the condition worse. So here are few rules of diet that you should follow to make sure that you don't aggravate your condition any further.
1. Avoid foods that are rich in purines like meat and fish as they increase the amount of uric acid in a person s blood which can worsen the symptoms of gout. So stick to vegetarian foods that are low in fat content. Here is how to stay healthy on a vegetarian diet.
2. Avoid alcohol consumption as this could lead to fluid accumulation.
3. Avoid artificial fruit juices and soft drinks as they contain artificial sweeteners and citric acid which can worsen your symptoms.
4. Additionally, you should avoid refined carbohydrates like white bread, cakes, cookies and biscuits, instead stick to low-fat milk and curd. Know how you can lower your gout attacks with cherries!
5. Lastly, drink at least 8-10 glasses of water a day, this will help wash out the excessive acids in your body and reduce the symptoms of gout.
