According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Globally, around 71 million people are living with chronic hepatitis C (HCV). Whereas, 399,000 were estimated to have died from HCV-related liver disease in the year 2017. The figures are harrowing. But, according to a new study which is published in the Lancet, as per the target set by the WHO, the hepatitis C infections would be reduced by 80 per cent. Implementing comprehensive blood safety and infection control measures were estimated to reduce the number of new infections in 2030 by 58 per cent.

A disease which causes inflammation and infection of the liver can be termed as Hepatitis C. You will suffer from this condition if you are infected with the hepatitis C virus (HCV). Furthermore, it can be acute or chronic and highly contagious. Fever, dark urine, loss of appetite, joint and abdominal pain and jaundice are the symptoms of hepatitis C. Also, it can be transmitted by organ transplants, blood transfusions, sharing items such as razors or toothbrushes and so on. Hence, you should consult a doctor if you are suffering from it. Along with your doctor’s treatment, you can also opt for these home remedies to help you deal with hepatitis C.

You can opt for green tea
According to the review published in the British Journal of Pharmacology, a polyphenol in green tea called as EGCG is a inhibitor of the virus HCV. You can try and sip on it. But, if you are suffering from hepatitis C then you should avoid going for green tea extract. It has a higher dosage of EGCG and can be harmful to your health, says the National Library of Medicine.

You can opt for yoga and meditation
Yoga involves deep breathing, stretching, poses and meditation. Since hepatitis C is a chronic illness, doing yoga and meditation can calm you down. You may become anxious if you suffer from hepatitis C. Thus, it can help you relax. Moreover, yoga can help you enhance your physical strength. You will feel healthier and stronger. Doing meditation can help you become mindful and to focus on your attention. Try to find a comfortable place and devote some time to meditate. So, speak to your expert and doctor, regarding the yoga poses you should avoid doing. Avoid going overboard.

You can opt for vitamin D
According to a study published in the European Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, vitamin D deficiency can also invite hepatitis C. Another study published in Therapeutics and Clinical Risk Management found that patients who took vitamin D had lower amounts of substances associated with liver injury in their blood. Various studies suggest that if your blood levels are under 30 ng/mL then vitamin D supplements may help heal your liver. Similarly, it can be also helpful for your muscles, nerves, and immune system. You can soak up yourself in the sun as well. You should only take vitamin supplements as per your expert’s advise. Furthermore, according to the National Library of Medicine. taking too much vitamin D over a long period of time can be dangerous as it can lead to high levels of calcium in the blood.

You should watch what you eat
If you eat a well-balanced diet then you will be able to help your liver function appropriately. Thus, you will be able to eliminate your chances of cirrhosis, (scarring that can lead to liver failure). Eating healthy foods can boost your immunity owing to which you will be able to fight infections. You should incorporate whole grains, fruits, and veggies, eggs, and fish, in your diet.

You should limit the intake of sodas, sweetened beverages, pastries, cookies, white bread, white pasta, fried, spicy, oily and processed foods which are high in sodium. This is so because the people suffering from hepatitis C are may be dealing with liver damage. Thus, their liver is already overworked by trying to do its job while unhealthy, or it is becoming less effective due to cirrhosis. So, too much sodium intake will make your work extra harder in order to maintain the healthy range of blood pressure. Otherwise, the person will be diagnosed with high blood pressure. Furthermore, it can also cause heart and kidney issues. Also, limit your alcohol intake and cut down on smoking.
