Migraines are one of the most painful and annoying conditions. It not only causes a lot of pain but also causes severe symptoms like sensitivity to light and sound. During a migraine attack a patient is usually required to take various medications to help relieve the pain and in some cases may need bed rest to help tide over the attack. But, there is something natural you can use to help beat the pain and discomfort cabbage leaves or bandh gobi.
Cabbage leaves are known to contain various compounds like sinigrin rapine, mustard oil, magnesium, oxylate and sulphur heterosides that are potent antibiotic and anti irritants. They are also known to help dilate capillaries in the area they are applied to, and help increase blood flow to the area, making cabbage a great remedy against the pain felt during a migraine. By dilating capillaries and increasing blood flow to the muscles in the part of the head that is hurting it helps them relax and deal with the pain better. It also helps reduce swelling in the same way. The dilated capillaries are in a better position to reabsorb fluid logged in a particular area, therefore relieving the swelling.
So if you have a migraine, try cabbage leaves as a natural pain killer. Here's how you can use it:
Take a head of cabbage and remove the first few leaves. Discard them and remove a few more leaves from the inner portions of the vegetable. Wash the leaves well and crush these them to make a paste. Spread this paste on a clean muslin cloth, and apply it you your head (or the area that is paining). Now, lay down and relax. Allow the pack to stay till the leaves dry out. You can choose to reapply the pack if the pain still persists.
