It s difficult to control when you have to itch. And what if the itch is at a place less accessible? No. I am not talking about the jock itch because for it, you still have the option to go to the restroom to calm it. But the ear itch is one of the most irritating ones. No wonder you end up picking any and every pointed and thin object that comes handy to reach where it itches.
Do you experience itching in your ears very often? What exactly is the cause of it? Is it serious? We asked Dr Amitabh Malik, HOD ENT, Paras Hospitals Gurgaon to shed some light on this common problem. Here s what he says:
Itching in the ears can be because of ear wax or dandruff in the ear canal. It may also be a result of a fungal infection, middle ear infection or acid reflex. Using toothpicks whether bare or covered with cotton must be avoided. Other sharp objects like keys, hair pins, and sharp nails can be dangerous and can cause further damage to the ear drum and ear canal. Never do these things to your ears. If you experience itching in your ears once in a while, it is not a cause of concern. However, if the itching occurs frequently, it could indicate some underlying serious condition.
