A large number of women in Scotland have filed law suits against a commonly prescribed trans-vaginal mesh, after it left a them with serious side effects. While, some women claim that the side effects they had experienced were so severe that doctors had told them that they will be incapable of having sex, others complained of severe abdominal pain and discomfort. 400 women have launched a legal battle for damages and it is reported that more women are likely to join them. The transvaginal mesh it is a small mesh-like structure that is fitted just below the pelvic floor to help it strengthen the vagina. This implant is not used for any cosmetic benefit but is prescribed to women who suffer from debilitating conditions like stress urinary incontinence and vaginal or uterus prolapse.

Made of either artificial or biological material, the mesh is used to strengthen loosened pelvic floor muscles -- that are the main cause of these conditions. Although the implant was flawless theoretically, it failed to deliver when it was used.

Some of the complications of this implant arepain, infections, relapse of the condition, excessive vaginal discharge, erosion of the mesh into the adjoining organs and vaginal shrinkage. Apart from all of this a woman may experience complications during the insertion of the mesh itself. Complications like perforation of the bladder, bowel or blood vessels are common in many women.
