In fact, a few people have had to get the earlobes stitched to fix this issue. We aren t saying you stop wearing fancy ear accessories completely but here are some things you can do to prevent dangling earlobes:

  • Pierce your ears correctly. If the piercing is on the lower side of the lobe, chances of it sagging are higher. Get piercings done only from professionals and use gold or silver rings till the ear heals completely after piercing. Try these 7 expert tips to heal your newly pierced ears.
  • Avoid wearing dangling earrings or hoops when handling a toddler. Kids tend to yank at these ornaments which can lead to sagging or dangling earlobes.
  • Always comb your hair gently when wearing long and heavy earrings. The constant tugging can cause damage. Remove scarfs and clothes carefully if you have heavy earrings on. The snagging can also lead to dangling earlobes. Here are 7 things you must know about ear piercings.
  • Don t wear heavy earrings for long hours. If you can, take breaks and remove them for few hours before you wear them again.
  • Use light and clipped earrings for daily use. There s a huge variety of light weight, long earrings and hoops available easily in the market.
  • Don t choose earrings that have thick piercings. They will widen the tiny piercing that you have and of the earring is heavy, it may end up tearing it further.
  • Avoid nickel or any other metal your body reacts too. If you are allergic to imitation jewellery, resist the temptation to wear it. Allergies can also damage your earlobes. You can also try this home remedy for post piercing infection.
  • You can also use stickers that stabilise and hold heavy earrings in place. They are inserted at the back of the ear, in the earring post. They prevent the post from pressing downwards due to the weight of the earring.
  • If you experience too much sagging or a longer slit, you can fix it through a minor procedure at an early stage to prevent a torn earlobe. Consult a doctor before opting for these procedures.
